Backpacks for SA Kids

On Wednesday, 22nd August the LJ Hooker Greenwith | Golden Grove | Mawson Lakes team headed down to Backpacks for SA Kids to volunteer in a sorting and packing session.

Backpacks for SA Kids is a local organisation that prepares and provides backpacks to help relieve some of the stress and anxiety children face when they are removed from their family, often in traumatic situations and without the opportunity to take any personal belongings with them.

The backpacks provided contain age appropriate emergency clothing, toiletries and other necessary supplies for children aged 0-16 years who are taken into care as a result of neglect or abuse, or who need to quickly leave their homes dues to family violence, or who are experiencing homelessness.

The organisation assists more than 3,800 children per year, with all work within the organisation being undertaken by volunteers who sort, store and pack donated goods into the emergency backpacks for each child.

The team along with our coffee van, LJ, served coffees and hot chocolates to all of the volunteers and also sorted and packed several backpacks ready for the children.

It was a great experience enjoyed by all with Principal, Michael Fenn commenting that “It was so sad to hear about so many kids that are put into this unfortunate situation but it was so heartwarming to hear about the work undertaken by Backpacks for SA Kids to put a smile on kid’s faces in their absolute time of need.”
